Itinerary
DAY 01 - Arrival in Jaisalmer
Your trip begins at the place of arrival: Jaisalmer the Golden City of Rajasthan due to yellow sandstone constructions. Get in your hotel and have some rest after the trip. During the evening, go around Gadisar Lake, which is an artificial storage that was once used to supply Jaisalmer with water. The lake is special because it has steps, shrines and hand carved temples. As the sun sets, the sky in the background is mirrored in the smooth waters which give the city a golden look. You can also visit the local bustling markets later and purchase colorful handicrafts, embroidered cloth, camel leather products and souvenirs. Go back to your hotel and have a good night's rest.
DAY 02 - Jaisalmer Fort and Havelis.
See the Jaisalmer Fort after the breakfast which is also known as Sonar Quila or the Golden Fort. People still live within this ancient wall as opposed to many forts. There are royal palaces, a Jain temple, and narrow lanes with shops, guesthouses, and restaurants that present a mix of the past and present that you will see inside. Visit next Patwon ki Haveli which is a complex of five mansions with elaborate front walls and carved balconies. Then go to Nathmal ki Haveli, which is a combination of Islamic and Rajput architecture with good stone work. These havelis can be seen as a way of wealthy merchants expressing themselves through art in order to show their wealth. You can do your own thing in the evening after which you can go back to your hotel and sleep.
DAY 03 - Jain Temples, Bada Bagh and Desert Safari.
Begin your day by going to the Jain Temples within Jaisalmer Fort. They have good sandstone carvings and tranquility. The different temples are dedicated to various Jain Tirthankaras and contain beautiful pillars, domes and sculpted figures. Afterwards visit the Bada Bagh, royal garden which has memorial arches called chhatris, constructed in remembrance of rulers of Jaisalmer. You can have tremendous views of the desert there. Prepare to spend the night out in the desert at the Sam Sand Dunes. Ride a camel, or jeep, across the soft golden sand, and see the sun set the sky orange and pink. Then invest in a little desert camp where you may sleep with the star-lit sky. Overnight at the desert camp.
DAY 04 - Salim Singh ki Haveli and Cultural Evening.
Breakfast in the desert camp and then travel back to the city. See the unusual house in Visit Salim Singh ki Haveli which is a peacock shaped house roof which is the only one among the historic buildings of Jaisalmer. Next visit the Jaisalmer War Museum that pays tribute to the courage of Indian soldiers and presents the war artifacts, equipment and narratives. Folk dance and traditional music in the evening enjoy the culture of Rajasthan in a heritage hotel or desert camp. You will have a royal-style dinner, and hence, enjoy the true Rajasthani hospitality and food. Go back to your hotel and sleep.
DAY 05 - Departure
Breakfast and then leave your hotel. You should take with you the memories of great fort, beautiful havelis, beau markets, desert adventures, and magic nights in the sky when you leave Jaisalmer.
